Diabetes Treatment

There is no known cure for Diabetes. But that’s not that bad news as it looks like. There are many ways of controlling diabetes and lead a normal and healthy life. So, the treatment for diabetes is mainly about controlling the blood sugar levels so that there aren’t any other complications arising due to diabetes. Different types of treatment: For Type-1: Since type-1 diabetes mainly occurs due to pancreas not producing enough insulin for absorbing the blood sugar, its treatment involves feeding insulin to the blood. Also, the treatment involves following a diabetic diet. A diabetic diet is the one where the consumption of calories is limited and glucose in take is reduced so that not much glucose/sugar is released into the blood upon digestion. Also, apart from insulin injection and diabetic diet, the patient will also be put under regular exercises so that the metabolism is regulated and sugar levels are under control. However, even after taking care of above steps, if the sugar levels are still abnormal, the patient has to start intake medicines. The medicines mainly work on the pancreas and get more insulin generated.

For Type-2: The treatment for Type-2 diabetes primarily involves regulating the metabolism so that the sugar levels are brought into control in a natural way. The treatment starts with weight reduction, continues with following diabetic diet and performing regular exercises to keep the body active. All these steps are targeted at controlling the body metabolism which in turn can control sugar levels. However, even after these steps, if the patient still has high levels of blood sugar, there are several oral medications that can be administered to control sugar. The medications basically target at: • Increasing the insulin output from pancreas • Increase the sensitivity on blood bodies (cells) to insulin • Decrease the release of glucose from the liver

How to reduce Diabetes Risks?

Type-1 diabetes which is caused due to insufficient insulin to fight high blood sugars can be reduced by giving shots of insulin or an insulin pump. This diabetes is mainly inherited from family and other environmental factors. Type-2 diabetes has many risks involved like obesity, high blood sugar or blood pressure can be controlled by fighting back against these serious complications. Follow the below tips to reduce diabetes risks • Obesity is the most important risk for type 2 diabetes. Over weight causes higher risk of insulin resistance in which the fat interferes with the body’s ability to use insulin. 30 percent of the adults are obese who are at a greater risk of falling for diabetes. To reduce the risk, cut the fat. Shedding a reasonable amount of your body weight slows down the progression of the disease. • Change in lifestyle like exercising daily will make the muscle cells respond more to insulin. It also makes you more active which in turn lowers sugar levels. Exercise and healthy appetite also controls high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It also reduces your risk of acquiring heart attacks, strokes and diabetes. • Unhealthy choice of food makes you obese which causes diabetes. Reduce this risk of diabetes by taking healthy food. • People who have family members with diabetes are at a greater risk of developing the disease by themselves. When they are aware of the members with the disease, living a lifestyle with physical activities and healthy food choices are the best ways of reducing risk of getting diabetes.

Diabetic Shoes

Diabetes is one of the serious health complications that are affecting millions of people across the globe. Diabetes if not treated on time, may result in various serious health complications. Diabetic patients should take at most care of their foot. Diabetic neuropathy is the main reasons for foot problems and they take longer time to deal. Diabetic shoes are avaible in the market which will help the patients to avoid cuts and cracks in the feet. There are various varieties of diabetic shoes available for both formal and casual occasions. A minor foot injury can lead to serious foot problems in the people suffering from diabetics. So it is very important for them to take care of their foot. Here are few tips • Avoid wearing fashionable shoes or sandals which can harm the feet • Avoid wearing too tight or too loose shoes. Select the shoes which have space for the toes to move. • Go for diabetic shoes which are specially designed for diabetic patients. You can use them both indoor and outdoor. • Never walk barefoot and something may pick into the feet and lead to infections • During winter season do not go out without wearing socks. • Do not place your feet on cold places or items, it leads to foot problems. • Always keep your shoes neat and clean. Wash the socks every day. • Trim your nails daily. • Check your feet everyday and see if there is any redness, swelling or cuts.

Types of diabetes

Nowadays many people are subjected to different types of Diabetes as there are various kinds like Type1, Type2 and Gestational Diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes or Diabetes mellitus type 1 occurs due to loss of insulin producing cells and thus causes insulin deficiency. There is no preventive measure for type 1 diabetes. We come across most of these cases in North America and Europe. Most of the people are healthy but when this occurs they find a change in their normal weight. Type 1 diabetes can affect both adults and children. This was also traditionally termed as “juvenile diabetes” as it also occurs in children.

Type 2 diabetes or diabetes mellitus type 2 occurs due to insulin resistance or also decrease in insulin secretion. The specific defects are not yet known. This mostly occurs in adults and people who are obese. There are number of medications that can be used to improve insulin sensitivity or reduce the glucose production by the liver.

Gestational Diabetes occurs in pregnant women and resembles type 2 diabetes. This occurs due to insufficient insulin secretion and insulin responsiveness. This kind of diabetes starts at the time of pregnancy and might increase or even decrease after pregnancy. But at least 20% of women who had Gestational diabetes have chances of getting type 2 diabetes in future. The patient needs to be under constant medical supervision as untreated Gestational diabetes can affect the fetus and mother.

The other kinds of diabetes are Pre diabetes where the blood sugar level in a person is higher than normal but not enough for type 2 diabetes. Latent autoimmune diabetes is a condition where Type 1 diabetes develops in adults.

Brittle diabetes

Diabetes is the disease which is seen in most of the people. If a person is having high glucose levels then the condition is known as diabetes mellitus.

This disease is of many types. If a person is not having insulin in the required amounts then it leads to type 1diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is seen in the pregnancy. At some point or the other in the life people will come to know about this disease.

Brittle diabetes is one of its type and which is seen rare. This type of disease is seen only in 1 to 2 percent of the people. The person facing this type of disease will experience disturbances in blood glucose levels. The final bad result of this disease is diabetic coma and which finally leads to death of a person.

Sugar levels are checked regularly so that accurate action is taken for preventing you from danger. The symptoms caused by this type of diabetes are not predictable because it has symptoms related to both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.

The person may also experience blurred vision, dry skin etc. If you see low sugar levels in a person then dizziness, headache, etc are seen.

There is no accurate treatment for this type of disease but to be safe makes regular check up on sugar levels. An insulin resistant diet is advised to the patient who is facing this kind of disease.

Hence proper measures are taken by the patients who face this problem to control it.

Various forms of insulin

Insulin comes in different forms as to regulate blood sugar levels. There are seven forms of insulin

  • Lispro: This is most commonly used insulin, which shows results within five minutes taking it. It lowers the sugar levels up to 2.5 hours and is more effective during the first 1 hour.
  • Normal Insulin: It starts working after 30 minutes of taking. It shows effective results for about three hours and continues working until seven hours.
  • Lente: Lente is another form of insulin that works like the natural insulin in the body. The best of this form is that it works for long period, but takes about 2 hours to shows the results. It is very effective during the first half of the day than the second half day.
  • Ultralente: It takes about 6 hours to start lowering blood sugar levels. It shows its results though out day.
  • Glargine: Most popular form of insulin used mainly for type 1 diabetes. It acts for longer time nearly 24 hours. However, never use this insulin along with other forms of insulin.
  • Pre-mixed insulin: Another popular form of insulin that takes, patient dosage and administration records for diabetes treatment.
  • NPH: It lowers the blood sugar levels after 2 hours of taking and shows effective results up to 12 hours. It works for almost 24 hours.

The above are various forms of insulin that will help your in lowering blood sugar levels in your body.

Doctors get trained by The Diabetes Research Centre

Nowadays diabetes has become a fast rising issue and therefore to understand it better most medical practitioners are doing researches at different centres to get trained.

The emotional cure for diabetes is very important and for this reason investigations and reports associated with the same gave a new approach to these aspects. It has been confirmed that diabetes can have an effect on kids and adults as well. To recognize the signs of diabetes, understanding the type of disorder and the early warning signs are very important.

The initial warning indications can be seen only after attaining the middle ages or it can be at later phases. But with the help of these studies, signs can be seen without any difficulty in every individual of all age groups and also people are more aware of diabetes. From many cases it has been declared that diabetes is associated with heredity and can occur because of genes.

However there are methods to cure the same and this involves identification of these indicators and early analysis of diabetes. These are the two major aspects that can help to stop this disorder from spreading more and leading to extreme health illness also.

But a lot of people ignore the early risk or watchful signs of diabetes. Due to the carelessness this disorder frequently comes to a worse stage. Some signs may go undiagnosed as the signs does not cause any harm. There are many cases where individuals fail to recognize the signs of these diseases. Those who miss to identify these symptoms may suffer from severe results.

DIABETES

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder of our body. Glucose is the main form of energy for our body. It is produced by our digestive system by converting the digested food into glucose. Glucose thus produced is absorbed by the blood and after that blood glucose enters the body cells with the help of Insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by pancreas to help glucose enter the cells of our body, without insulin glucose cannot enter the cells. It is very important to maintain the required levels of glucose in our body. In order to maintain the required levels of glucose, some quantity of glucose is stored in the liver and this glucose is automatically released whenever the glucose level is low. Hypo glycemia or low blood glucose and Hyperglycemia or high blood glucose are serious health problems in diabetic people. Hypo glycemia damages Nerves, blood vessels and other vital organs of the body and if not treated leads to keto acidosis. Type-1 diabetes, Type-2 diabetes and Gestational diabetes are the three different types of diabetes. • In Type-1 Diabetes, body does not produce any amount of insulin. • In Type-2 Diabetes, insufficient amount of insulin is produced. • Gestational Diabetes is the diabetic condition developed during pregnancy. Type-1 diabetic patients are treated by injecting insulin to maintain the required levels of glucose in the blood. Type-2 diabetic patients are prescribed tablets, are advised to strictly follow a healthy diet and to exercise regularly. Diabetic patients may suffer from serious health problems such as keto acidosis, non ketotic hypersosmolar coma or hypoglycemia, Cardio vascular, kidney problems if they do not maintain the glucose levels. Any kind of wound takes longer time to heal, chances of amputation can be high if gangrene is formed. Diabetes can be controlled by regular exercise and by following a healthy diet. Avoid resources of carbohydrates and sugar such as pastas, rice, potatoes and any form of starch.

CAUSES OF DIABETES

Diabetes is caused if the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or if the insulin produced is not effective. There are three types of diabetes, Type-1, type-2 and Gestational Diabetes. In Type-1, the pancreatic cells responsible for producing insulin are destroyed and auto-immune reaction develops because the pancreas fails to produce insulin. Insulin producing cells of pancreas can be destroyed due to infections and toxins. In Type-2, the insulin produced by pancreas is not used effectively or if insufficient insulin is produced. Few women suffer from gestational diabetes during pregnancy but this type of diabetes subsides after the delivery. Obesity, Poor or unhealthy Diet, Inactive lifestyle, High blood pressure, Physical Injury, Emotional stress and old age are the main causes of diabetes. Obese people mostly suffer from Type-2 diabetes in which the insulin produced by pancreas is not used effectively. Fat cells resist insulin that delivers the blood glucose into the cells. The insulin produced becomes ineffective, as it fails to deliver the blood glucose into the body cells to provide the required energy. In this case the glucose fails to enter the cells and circulates in blood without being used by cells for energy. Poor intake of food leads to insufficient nutrition in our body. Diabetes can occur due to less intake of fibers and protein and more intake of refined food or junk food. Emotional or physical injury can trigger diabetes as slight variance in cortio steroids leads to diabetes. Older people who lead an inactive life have a tendency to put on more weight and this leads to diabetes due to dysfunction of the pancreas. Persistent high blood pressure is one of the main cause of diabetes. Follow a strict regime of workouts and lead an active life style as sedentary life style and improper diet such as junk food to avoid suffering from diabetes.

Insulin Pen

Insulin Pen is an injection of insulin given into the bloodstreams for treating insulin. It consists of an insulin cartridge, a pen needle and a device to measure the dose. It is bit larger in size than our normal pen. Some of the parts are disposable.  The insulin cartridge and needle needs to be replaced from time to time.  These insulin pens are used in most of the countries except in United States, where the people prefer injections and syringes rather than insulin pens. These pens come in various sizes mainly from 1.5 ml to 3.0 ml.

Various types of Insulin Pens

There are different types of pens by different manufactures, giving the users various options to choose from.  There are pre-filled pens, which are mostly prescribed for type 2 diabetics.  They have pre mixed insulin dosage, to that the user that fill the insulin as per his dosage. These pens needs to be disposed after the usage, and are not be reused.

The other type of pen is durable pen; replaceable insulin cartridges, where we can throw the cartridge only after all the insulin filled is used up.  This pen can be reused after placing a new cartridge. These days we are getting build in memory pens, where you can set the time, date and the amount of dosage.  It is the easiest ways for the user to use the insulin pen.

Benefits

Some of the basic benefits of using the Insulin Pen they are easy, accurate and portable.

Usage

First, you need to identify the place where you want to inject your dosage; there are some parts in the body, which are very good for injections such as abdominal areas, thighs, buttocks, waist and upper arm.  Stay away from navel and other scars and be careful not to use the areas that are swollen, injured and sensitive.

After identifying the area, clean it with alcohol pad or cotton ball dipped in alcohol. Then remove the cover from the pen, take insulin dosage and insert the disposable needle in its place. After it is placed properly, push the end of the pen until some drops of the insulin comes out. Later on, insert the needle down into the skin of the selected area and pinch it into the skin for few more seconds. Now pull off the pen and gently message the area with cotton ball. Put on the cover of insulin pen and store it in a cool and dry place.
